Retailer Listing Reveals Complete Xiaomi Mi 5 Specifications

Based on latest reports, Xiaomi’s next flagship smartphone the Mi 5 is expected to go official sometime in early 2016. Although quite a few leaks and rumors have surfaced in the recent past, no details had really been confirmed so far. That has finally changed today as retailer Oppomart listed the complete specifications of the smartphone on its website. Quite a few other smartphones have also been leaked by the retailer website in the past, so it does have a pretty decent track record as far as leaks go.

Unlike what the rumor mills had been suggesting, it looks like the Xiaomi Mi 5 won’t pack a 5 or 5.2-inch sized display. Instead, Oppomart lists the smartphone as having a 5.5-inch sized display with 1440 x 2560 Quad HD resolution. That means the next Xiaomi flagship will under the ‘phablet’ category, like most new flagship Android smartphones. Internally, the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 820 chipset clocked at 2.5 GHz. This isn’t surprising really as multiple rumors over the past few weeks have hinted at the same chipset powering the device. The rumored 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM has also been confirmed in the listing. As far as internal storage goes, the retailer listing suggests the flagship smartphone will be available in three different variants – 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB.

Coming to cameras now, the Mi 5 will include a 20 megapixel unit at the back and an 8MP unit on the front for taking selfies and handling video calls. Pretty much on par with most recent flagship devices we’ve seen. In terms of battery life, the Mi 5 could be quite a beast as it will be equipped with a 3800mAh capacity battery inside. That’s fairly large and coupled with the promised greater efficiency of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, the Mi 5 could leave most flagship smartphones behind in terms of battery stamina.

Some other details do still remain a mystery though, such as the design of the handset. It is also yet to be ascertained if the handset will indeed offer a USB Type-C port and a fingerprint scanner embedded on a physical home button on the front. But one thing we can fairly sure of is the pricing. Oppomart has listed the Mi 5 for $599, which is definitely a great price when you consider the hardware on offer. Even if the final price does change slightly by next year, it should still be cheaper than flagship smartphones from more established Android OEMs such as Samsung.
