Lenovo’s Surface clone is now cheaper and more powerful

At IFA in Berlin this week, Lenovo is back with a slightly refined Surface clone, the Miix 510. Lenovo's Miix 510 will be available in October priced at $599.99. That's $150 less than the Miix 700 retails for, and it's really a compelling alternative to Microsoft's Surface.

Lenovo surprised everyone with a Surface clone last year that looked just like Microsoft's tablet. At IFA in Berlin this week, Lenovo is back with a slightly refined Surface clone, the Miix 510. It trades the Core M processor found in the Miix 700 for a 6th generation Core i7 chip (not Kaby Lake). That's going to make it a little more powerful than the Miix 700, and Lenovo is still promising around 7.5 hours of battery life.

The Miix 510 still looks very similar to the Miix 700, and it includes the same kickstand with Lenovo's watchband hinge that the company typically uses on its Yoga line of convertibles. There's also a removable keyboard that magnetically snaps onto the screen, just like Microsoft's Surface Pro range of tablets. Lenovo is using a 12.2-inch display at full HD, and you'll be able to get models with up to 8GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD. This year's model also adds a USB Type-C port.

With no sign of a Surface 4 yet to replace Microsoft's lower priced Surface 3 tablet, Lenovo's Miix 510 will be available in October priced at $599.99. That's $150 less than the Miix 700 retails for, and it's really a compelling alternative to Microsoft's Surface.
