It has been a while since Xiaomi launched its current flagship phone, the Xiaomi Mi 5. The smartphone was announced in February during MWC 2016 which took place in Barcelona. It was meant to rival other high-end devices which was also released at the event, such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the LG G5.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 has been available in the store shelves for several months, and it’s one of the best selling handsets in China. Even so, the company is not doing very well in terms of sales because it’s no longer in top three Chinese phone manufacturers. Anyway, we already know that Xiaomi is preparing to release a couple of new terminals, which will come with better hardware than the Mi 5.
To be more specific, we are talking about the Xiaomi Mi 5s and the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, which are expected to be launched in the near future, according to the reports we’ve seen so far. If we are to believe the rumors, the Xiaomi Mi 5s will be a revamped version of the regular Mi 5, which will sports better specs, but also a new exterior design. As far as the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is concerned, the handset will be released as the company new flagship phablet and it will be replacing the Mi Note, which was announced at the beginning of 2015.
Anyhow. today we have a new piece of news regarding the Xiaomi Mi 5s, and according to this last report, it seems that the handset will have a display that will measure 5.15 inches, just like the standard Mi 5. The difference between the two display is that the one of the Mi 5s will have support for 3D touch. In other words, it will be a pressure sensitive display. Moreover, the upcoming smartphone will allegedly be powered by a Qualcomm developed Snapdragon 821 quad-core chipset that will be clocked at a speed of 2.4 GHz. The processor will be paired with an Adreno 530 GPU, which runs at a frequency of 650MHz. Furthermore, the phone will boast 6 GB of RAM, and most likely the amount of native storage will be 256 GB. In the imaging department, there is a 16 MP OIS camera that will be situated on the back side, just like the one that can be found on the regular Xiaomi Mi 5.
Moving on to the battery, the Xiaomi Mi 5s will sport one with the capacity of 3,490mAh, which features Quick Charge 3.0 developed by Qualcomm. Further, as claimed by the rumors, the smartphone will also feature NFC, Bluetooth 4.2 and two nano SIM slots. The phone seems that will be 7.25 mm thick, and will have a weight of 147 grams, which essentially means that Xiaomi added a little more weight than in the case of the regular Mi 5. As for the release date, in spite of all the reports that surfaced online, we are not sure when the Xiaomi Mi 5s will be revealed. The company might announced along with the Mi Note 2, but we don’t have any official confirmation yet.
