After stunning everyone with the bezel-less Mi MIX recently, it looks like Xiaomi might be working on a new smartphone that could provide to be a formidable rival to the Apple iPhone 7. The device will allegedly be marketed as the Mi S and is going to be the most powerful sub 5-inch Android smartphone on the market.
According to the leaked promotional materials, the Xiaomi Mi S will feature a 4.6-inch 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution display with a maximum brightness of 600 nits and 2.5D curved glass on top. The “mini flagship” will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core 64-bit chipset, paired with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. In terms of storage, users will get 128GB of fast UFS 2.0 internal memory, which is quite impressive.
The primary camera on the Xiaomi Mi S will be a 12MP Sony IMX378 with an f/2.0 aperture lens, phase detection autofocus, a dual-LED flash, and support for video recording at up to 4K resolution. For selfies, the Mi S will include a 4MP snapper on the front, paired with a similar f/2.0 aperture lens and support for video recording at up to 1080p resolution.
In the battery life department, the Mi S may not prove to be a beast, as the leak suggests the smartphone will come equipped with only 2,600mAh capacity battery. It will support the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging standard though. On the connectivity front, the Xiaomi Mi S will include a fingerprint scanner, a USB Type-C port, 4G LTE network support, GPS with A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, NFC, Wi-Fi Display, and Wi-Fi Direct.
While the specifications do seem believable, we aren’t sure if these leaked promotional slides are actually real. There is a possibility of these alleged promotional materials being fake, which would mean that there is no such device as the Mi S in existence. The only way to know currently is to wait until Xiaomi confirms (or denies) the existence of the Mi S.
