Compatible with the Mydlink Home app, the device can also interact with other D-Link connected devices, switching off a light plugged into a D-Link switch. And thanks to D-Link's new IFTTT channel, if the Smart Alarm detector hears something, it can act as a trigger for any number of smart home devices.

With a range of 50 feet, the Smart Alarm listens for the specific sounds of UL certified detectors to minimize false alarms while maintaining reliability. If you find a good spot for it, you can use one device to enable remote notifications for multiple detectors in your home.

Due out in the second quarter of 2016, you'll be able to purchase a Mydlink Smart Alarm Detector for $60, making it a much more cost effective way of adding basic smarts to multiple detectors, as opposed to a wholesale replacement like the second generation $100 Nest Protect.

According to D-Link, all EXO routers will feature Gigabit Ethernet (for fast wired connections,) high power amplifier (for better Wi-Fi range), SmartConnect (blending two Wi-Fi band into a single network) and Intelligent QoS (traffic optimization for Internet applications). On top of that they will also be easy to use and will support all existing Wi-Fi clients on the market.

In addition to the DIR-879, D-Link also showcased today a second EXO router, the DIR-869, which is an AC1750 (cap Wi-Fi speed of 1,300Mbps on the 5GHz band and 450Mbps on the 2.4GHz band). This router will be available in the second quarter of 2016Considering the fact that the fastest Wi-Fi clients on the market (such as laptops, tablets or smartphones) has the cap Wi-Fi speed of 1300Mbps, getting the top-notch router, such as an AC5300 or an AC2600 router, in most cases won't bring about any differences.

What you need, however, is a router that's about as fast as the speed of the clients. An example of that is the new DIR-879 AC1900 Wi-Fi router that D-Link unveiled today at CES 2016. This is a dual-band router that has a top speed on the 5GHz band of 1,300Mbps and on the 2.4GHz band, up to 600Mbps. The DIR-879 rivals many existing midrange routers, such as the Asus RT-AC68U, the Linksys WRT1900ACS, the Netgear R7000 and even D-Link's own DIR-880L. And it's the first in D-Link's all-new product line called EXO routers. with a suggested price of $130.
