Apple expected to ship 20 million Macs in 2016

The rest of the PC industry may be crashing, but Apple expects Mac sales to remain relatively stable in 2016 — with sources in the supply chain claiming that Mac-series product shipments are likely to remain around the 20 million unit mark this year

In 2015, shipments of Mac-series products rose by 4.03 percent to a total of 20.38 million units, while Mac revenues increased 2.61 percent to S$25.273 billion. A recent report states that while HP, Lenovo, Dell, Asus and Acer all saw falling sales last year, Apple actually increased its worldwide PC shipments by 3 percent year-over-year.

Whether it can do the same in 2016 remains to be seen, but the company certainly has some aces up its sleeve which should spark customer interest.

Yesterday, reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said new MacBooks are set to debut in June, most likely adding Intel’s “Skylake” processors, bringing CPU speed increases of 10-20 percent, an improved graphics chip, and longer and more efficient battery life. It is possible that Apple will also ditch the smaller size 11-inch MacBook Air, but add a 15-inch model, much as it currently offers with the MacBook Pro.
