Hey, remember Oppo? The enterprising Chinese manufacturer ranks among the more innovative, forward-thinking players in the smartphone game. Its most useful invention has to be the VOOC fast charging tech that differentiates its higher-end models.
Oppo knows that fast charging and good battery life matter a lot for smartphone users, and pays a lot of attention to its development. It looks like Oppo wants to "wow the world" with its latest VOOC tech, judging by the poster which highlits its MWC 2016 press conference. Scheduled for Feb 23 (Tuesday), the event might see the company surprise us with fast wireless charging! At present, no-strings-attached charging is definitely a little slow, due to the specific challenges posed by transferring current through solid surfaces – things like heat, battery amortisation, and the distance between the device and the charging surface.
At present, wireless charging is fairly slow and inconvenient. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S6 can charge from 0 to 100% in about 1.48 hours over a wired connection, while wireless charging takes about 3.01 hours – twice as long. Moreover, charging mats don't let you move around with the device while it's charging, but that's a different problem altogether. Apple us rumored to be adressing it with the next iPhone, bringing aboard wireless charging at a distance of up to 1 meter . Meanwhile, Oppo may have targeted charging speed as the area for improvement. We'll get to see what secret tech the creative Chinese smartphone maker has in possesion this Tuesday (Feb 23).
