Panasonic unveils Windows 10, Android rugged tablets

The 4.7-inch handheld tablets come with a choice of two operating systems: the FZ-F1 runs Windows 10 IoT Mobile Enterprise operating system, while the FZ-N1 is powered by Android 5.1.1. Both feature a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

This device has an IP67 rating for tolerance to dust and water submersion, and the ability to withstand drops from 1.8 metres.

Pansonic said the Toughpad FZ-F1 and FZ-N1 weigh in at less than 280g and feature an integrated angled rear barcode reader.

The tablets, which are designed for postal and courier workers, warehouse, retail, manufacturing, field services and emergency services, also include the option for both a passive and an active pen.

The tablets have a 4.7-inch HD capacitive multi-touch display designed for use by workers in bright sunlight or in the rain, and by those wearing gloves. They are equipped with both 4G LTE / 3G data and voice communications as well as wi-fi, Bluetooth and NFC

There are rear (8MP) and front (5MP) cameras, as well as a Micro-USB port, a MicroSD card slot and dual Micro-SIM slots.

The Android-based FZ-N1 tablet will be available in June 2016 for £1,268 (ex. VAT), while the FZ-F1 with Windows 10 IoT Mobile Enterprise will be available later in the year and will cost £1,291 (ex. VAT).
