Additionally, you can change the default thumbs-up emoji to another one. Want a kissing emoji? Okay! Laughing emoticon? Should come in handy! A dancing lady one? Well, we can't imagine why you would want one of these to be available at a finger's tap away, but be our guest!
Last, you can set up a different nickname for each one of the Facebook peeps you're chatting with. Be careful, though - they'll be able to see the change, so custom names like "Annoying person #3" or "Smelly co-worker" will certainly do way more harm than good!
1. Step #1
First up, open Facebook Messenger and get inside any chat thread. If you're on Android, you have to tap on the "i" button on the top right, while on iOS, just hit the other party's name so as to open the additional settings. Let's focus on iOS now.
Let's try assigning a nick name first. Tap on the corresponding option in the menu.
3. Step #3
You will be redirected to a list of all participants in the conversation. You can set one for yourself and one for the other party.
So, after you've selected the user you want to rename, simply input their new alias and you're good to go.
5. Step #5
Now, get back to the menu we mentioned in Step #2 and tap the emoji option. You will be presented with a list of compatible emoji to choose from. Just select one and it will substitute the default thumbs-up on in the chat thread.
6. Step #6
From the menu in Step #2, you can also change the colors of the chat bubbles in the thread. Pink, yellow, and green - just pick your favorite!
