Domino's fans in New Zealand will soon receive pizza from a robot. Domino's has created an autonomous delivery vehicle, called the Domino's Robotic Unit (DRU), with startup Marathon Targets. It's in its prototype stage, but the company has worked with regulators to clear the way for its operation in New Zealand.

In a partially autonomous mode, DRU has already been tested during some deliveries in Australia, with permission from local regulators. The robot can travel up to 20 miles per charge and it uses the same kind of sensors you'd find in self-driving cars to avoid people and other obstacles.

The delivery unit can store up to 10 pizzas in a heating unit and the pizzas can be accessed by a customer using a code they receive with their order.
